ˇ@The
Homemaker's Union and Foundation was formed on January 6, 1987.
It was initially a part of the New Environment Magazine Publisher.
The founders were a group of housewives who did not want to sit
idly watching the society and the environment change for the worse.
They then decided to improve the cleanliness of environment and
quality of life.
ˇ@ˇ@On August
22, 1987, the Executive Yuan Environmental Protection Administration
was formed. On March 3, 1989, the Homemaker's Union and Foundation
officially registered as the Legal Entity of Homemaker's Union
and Environmental Protection Foundation. Its mission was to unite
the forces of various women's groups to care for the society,
raise the quality of life, promote gender harmony, and improve
our environment. The Homemaker's Union and Foundation opened the
Taichung workshop on August 5, 1990.
ˇ@ˇ@The Homemaker's
Union and Environmental Protection Foundation has 5 committees:
environmental protection, education, women's growth, consumer
quality, and natural walking path. It also has a newsletter editing
team and a workshop. The main purpose of the environmental protection
committee was to provide the knowledge and practical solution
for environmental protection, so the environmental protection
prospects could be nurtured through environmental education. The
emphasis was on applying the principles of environmental protection
to our everyday lives so the quality of our lives could be even
better.
ˇ@ˇ@Ever since
its inception, the Homemaker's Union and Foundation has been giving
its all working on tobacco control and prevention, especially
when promoting the damages second-hand smoke can cause on children
and women, with a goal of reducing the incidence of asthma in
children and lung cancer in women. It is the main member of the
Anti-Tobacco Alliance, and it participated in the making of the
Amendment to Tobacco Control and Prevention Act, with the hopes
of giving back our citizens clean air to breathe and a healthy
environment to live in.
