¡@The
Taiwan International Medical Alliance (TIMA) was formed in January
of 2001. Its main mission is to combine the technical expertise
and humane ways, and push for the collaboration of the civil society,
non-government organizations (NGO), and non-profit organizations
(NPO). TIMA is aiming to globalize Taiwan's NGO's, develop the
spirit of humane helping hands, assist the minority in obtaining
a healthy, just, and equal environment.
¡@¡@Ever
since its inception, TIMA has been continually growing through
trials and explorations. The idea of International Health Partnership
is complex enough, coupled with Taiwan's unique political environment,
making TIMA's every move extremely sensitive to criticism. Therefore,
TIMA always uses straightforward motives and ways to go about
its business. From promoting Taiwan's entering the WHO to the
current task of health awareness, TIMA has been through several
ups and downs.
¡@¡@TIMA
thinks that the most important foundation is the establishment
of viewpoints and the cultivation of abilities. For both Taiwan's
youth and our international friends, the goals of "enabling"
and "empowerment" are worthy goals to be working toward.
They firmly believe in "an ounce of prevention is worth a
pound of cure". The first step is to clearly see the biggest
enemies of human health, then apply the principles of public health
by means of education, promotion, and legislation. This way the
nations being assisted could become self-proficient.
¡@¡@Taiwan
has a close-knit relationship with other southeast Asian nations
in the areas of tourism, trade, vocation, and marriage. The future
development of Taiwan depends greatly on these neighboring countries.
Even though these countries do not have a formal diplomatic relationship
with Taiwan, we should work even harder to establish friendship
with others as Taiwan is being isolated internationally. Fortunately,
the stability and growth that we have been experiencing are far
superior to the neighboring countries, even when Taiwan is constantly
under the threat of our close neighbor to the west.
¡@¡@TIMA
insists on patiently working with the Southeast Asian nations
in order to understand their needs and to help them preserve their
own cultures and heritages, as well as helping them enjoy health
and the freedom of being pain-free. Whether they are the workers
in a Vietnam factory, the children in Cambodia countryside, or
the soldiers on the border of Thailand and Burma, they all have
the same right to enjoy all the resources available in this world.
¡@¡@In Taiwan,
TIMA is working on training the young people who possess international
vision, cultural sensitivity, social justice, and knowledge of
public health to be at the frontline and be the cultural diplomats
of Taiwan. They would use their hearts and their hands to improve
themselves and enrich others. They would love this task because
of their shared ideal.
