To
empower others to empower ourselves
¡@¡@Mr.
Huang is a prototypical activist. He said a successful research
project is not just discussing a topic on paper; rather,
a most comprehensive report is one in which the researchers
have actually gone through the experience in person. Under
his leadership, we held seminars in the community, talked
to students on campuses, and made a survey of the general
public. One step at a time, we have slowly achieved the
goal of making the public aware of the health risk of tobacco.
Mr. Hwang encouraged us to go from a point to a line, then
to an area, to expand on our tobacco control and prevention
campaign, so this research project could be stretched into
the future indefinitely.

¡@¡@"To
empower others to empower ourselves" is the expectation
I have for the students. I hope they realize the meaning
behind helping others is like helping ourselves. They will
learn the essence of "mutual help", whereas they
help others break free from the grasp of tobacco products,
and they have acquired a lot of valuable knowledge themselves.
This is not something that happens overnight; it comes from
continually exploring and learning. The team members have
learned to create a "win, win" situation through
helping others and helping themselves.

Store
confidence, store health, store love
¡@¡@Mr.
Lu is a very patient teacher. He often tells us, "having
problems is the best chance to learn how to solve them".
Therefore, whenever something happened and a question came
up, Mr. Lu would always discuss with us different ways to
solve the problem, or provide us concrete suggestions, enabling
us to learn how to think when face with a problem. He is
an excellent teacher who garners our respect.

¡@¡@After
having led the students on this anti-tobacco research project,
I found that when the young generation participates in a
public health project, it could raise their self-assurance
as they learn from the truth in life, and not just be fulfilled
materially. I encourage the children to extend their care
for life from Taiwan to every pair of hands in need on the
face of the earth. Store confidence, store health, and store
love while they are still young.
